Fon, describe yourself for our visitors.

FonJames jpg My name is Fon James and I am often described as a fun-loving person! I am a wife, sister, daughter, author, and an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in journalism, and a MBA.  I currently work full-time as a Sr. communications consultant for a major insurance company in Houston, TX. When I am not working or writing, I enjoy hanging out with my hubby and all of my family back home in Mississippi (my home state). I love attending black college football games and hearing the sound of the marching bands. I attend the Fort Bend Church in Sugarland, TX where I am an active member of the choir and the praise team.

Right now, I am listening to G-Mayes and N.E.’s song, Hit the Deck (check it out on my www.myspace.com/fonjames page. It is definitely jamming)! The group is basically telling the devil he’s got to go!!! I’m definitely feeling that because he definitely doesn’t have any place in my life!

Prayer Changes Children

by Dr. Terita Gusby-McCauley

“That ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I shall hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.-Jeremiah 29:12-12”

We often find ourselves in situations of hopelessness when our children have chosen the wrong friends, wrong places to go and wrong things to do. As parents and caregivers, the ultimate approach to finding help is to ask someone who can be a good listener and problem solver. It is also advisable to do our homework and be careful who we ask. If there is a parent you know who is presently having problems with raising their own children, this person would not be a candidate to assist you in your dilemma! It doesn’t matter what the situation is, God already knows. Read more

Kissmas Time

Dee StewartKissmas Time
An excerpt from Mommy’s Day Out: Gospel Deliverance for the Single Christian Mother
By Davidae Stewart

About five years ago my boyfriend, let’s call him Trucker Troy, stood me up on New Year’s Eve for the second time in the row. Actually-he didn’t stand me up. Apparently all the other truckers at his company took the night off, because his boss needed him more than anyone else. He called me a few minutes before the stroke of midnight, to tell me that he had just completed an emergency stop in Jacksonville, Florida six hours south of my home, and, thus, he would give me my New Year’s kiss via telephone. Minor technicality, but either way his inability to attend Watch Night Service at church with me again rubbed me every shade of wrong. And the fact that I had to settle for a fake kiss on one of the most romantic nights of the year Again distorted any future plans I had for us. Needless to say, Trucker Troy and I hit Splitsville on New Year’s Day, and he married a woman he met three months after the breakup. Go figure. Read more

Concerning Faith

Concerning Faith
by Pastor Sam Livingston

Praise the name of Jesus!

Faith can be duplicated, demonstrated, get dilapidated but should never get outdated. Faith activates our movement throughout the Body of Christ. Think about it, we can not physically touch or see Jesus so our communication with him is based on our faith. Even if we could touch him physically, our results would still be based on our faith.

When did you first become interested in comic books?

When I was in the fourth grade, my mother gave me some comic books to read at the beginning of the summer. She told me she was giving them to me so I would stay out of trouble. But she also knew I was behind in school. I was only reading at a second grade level. Every time I came to a word I didnt know, she would point me towards the dictionary and make me look it up. My mother was a wise woman. By the end of the summer I was reading at a ninth grade level, and I was hooked on comic books. Reading comic books kept me off the streets and out of trouble, just like she wanted. Read more
