How do you find time to connect with God?
I still teach everyday. The commute is 45 minutes 1 way. God assigned me a job/career to allows for much time for my commune with HIM and for HIM to speak back with instructions.
Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?
I like a variety of authors. Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Langston Hughes. Inspirational/Spiritual TD Jakes, Joyce Meyer, Myles Munroe – I actually like what I write as well as my friends, Vanessa Collins, Hannah Drake, Erica Rutherford, Dr. Ruth Wilson and Pastor Sharon C. B. Hunter.
Tell us about your journey to publication.
I wrote my first book and began selling it throughout the community. Prior to my first book, I sang 75+ events per year so I would go to different places in my community and around the country. I met with a friend and she asked me if I had more than 1 book in me. I hesitantly said yes and BK Royston Publishing was born to only publish my own books. A couple of years later, someone said that she had written a book, wanted it published and was going to pay me to publish her books. I told her I would do it for her and the rest is history. She told more friends and learned more and more about publishing.
Tell us about your current book?
Jillian is a love story. Jillian is single, hard-working, spirit led, passionate, multi-gifted and talented educated young woman looking for someone to share her life with. She has had relationships but doesn’t want to settle for a man who doesn’t love God, her and himself, in that order.
How did you come up with ideas for this book?
It is an embellishment on my own love story with my husband. I let my imagination go and had a wonderful time imagining anything and everything that I wanted to be in a love story and not have to pay for it. lol.
What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?
Don’t settle. Work hard. Love yourself no matter what you flaws. Beauty is still in the eye of the beholder. Don’t let anyone define you or stop you from living your purpose and promise. The spouse that is chosen for you will ALWAYS want you to be your best and support you in the area. Anything less is not for you.
What’s next for you?
I’m focusing on writing to help authors understand that the book is a business and how they need to prepare for the book business.
