INTERVIEW | Nicole Benoit-Roy, author of What I Gain Through His Pain

Nicole, tell us about yourself.

Wow! That’s one of the toughest questions for me to answer. I wonder if every author is like that? The first thing that comes to mind when I hear this question is to say, “My name is Nicole Benoit-Roy.” It’s as though my name consists of everything about me and by saying it, it’s obvious to everybody. Okay, let me try to answer the question. My name is Nicole Benoit-Roy(lol). I am crazy about God. And I am an award-winning author, by His grace.

How do you find time to connect with God?

When I don’t connect with Him, I’m miserable. It’s a matter of survival. It’s one of the necessities of life. And I say it’s number one on my list.
I’m going to share this response I gave to my college professor who asked, “How do you find time to develop your faith while still meeting the demands of your busy lives, families, school, and work?” on a quiz.

“Honestly speaking, I don’t need to find time to do those things that are obligated. Like taking this quiz, I had to whether I wanted to or not. As far as developing my faith, that’s one of the few things I have fun doing. Therefore, I will not give it up. In order to develop my faith, I wake up at 4:00AM every morning. I call it ‘My appointment time with the Lord.’ And it is my most cherished time. I absolutely love it. When I’m sleepy and tired, I come out from His presence strengthen. I have gotten in the habit of coming into His gates with thanksgiving. I start thanking Him for things I don’t even have and I watch those things materialize. It is the most amazing experience. As for those things that keep me busy, I find that the more time I spend with the Lord the more productive I am in all other areas. When I am pressed for time, I take the little time that I have and give God most of it. Think of it in terms of returning tithes. Instead of gi ving Him 10% of my little time, I give Him 90% and then the 10% with which I’m left, I accomplish so much more with it. It’s weird, but that’s how it works for me. I go by this saying, ‘A little time with Jesus makes it right,’ which I recommend for everyone.

PS: This was a cool question to ask. I enjoyed talking/writing about my Lord. Thank you for the opportunity.”

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

My favorite authors are: Ellen Gould White, the Bible authors. If I continue writing under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I will soon become my favorite author too. Because I love learning from God.

My absolute favorite book in the whole world is the Bible. It was about time when I discovered that book.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

I waited on God for the right opportunity. I had promised Him that I will only move according to His divine timing. I want to always be in syncopation with Him. Never ahead or lagging behind. Too much is at stake to not be right by His side. My children’s book publisher tried to convince me to publish with them and I said, “I’m not ready yet” because I did not hear the Lord giving me the “go ahead.” The manuscript was going through editing at the time. Through my editor’s newsletter, I found out that she, too, can publish my book. The Lord said, “This is it, publish with her.” The whole process was divine. Thank you Jesus.

Tell us about your current book, What I Gain Through His Pain?

My current book is an autobiography in which I describe God’s goodness in my life, even through the struggles. He was always there. He is an ever present help in times of need. Honestly, I think He spoils me. I can always count on Him.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

I got the ideas for the book through prayer. God, first gave me the title of the book. And then he told me what stories to put in it. I think of this book as one God wrote, but gave me credit for.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

That God is always there, even when you don’t feel His presence. Knowing He is there is enough hope for anybody.

What’s next for you?

To write a library of books mainly on the subject of the cross. Somebody loved me to death, there. My next book is going to be titled, “He Swaps His High for My Low: A Daily Devotional”
