Jennifer, tell us about yourself.
I am an expert on money and lifestyle. Due to my extensive background in “all things money”, I have been an on-air commentator for years and I am also an established columnist and reporter having written for The Huffington Post, Motley Fool and Black Enterprise. I have been featured on ABC, MSNBC, FOX Business, HuffPost Live and TVOne, with financial tips that show consumers that you can achieve an “affordable lifestyle” and that finances do not have to be a chore.
How do you find time to connect with God?
I connect with him everyday. Through prayers and thoughts. Just bringing me to this point in my life where I have such a great book and a brand that helps people with something that is so important; their money and their lifestyle is such a blessing.
Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?
James Patterson. Zora Neale. John Grisham. Terry McMillan. To be honest, I have been so busy with the book, that I have not sat down and read a book in a while!
Tell us about your journey to publication.
I knew for a while that I had this book in me and one weekend I just sat down and wrote it ! And not on the computer either. I wrote it down by hand! I knew that I wanted something different and that I did not just want to talk at the the reader, but really give them something that was interactive and keep them engaged in the process of learning about their finances.
Tell us about your current book,Thrive!…Affordably ?
Thrive!…Affordably is a monthly “how-to” designed to help the reader meet financial goals one step at a time. The book offers tips, advice, and management lessons geared toward helping the reader take control over finances. And it does it in a fun way with exercises that can be done alone or in a group or with a spouse/significant other. It’s available on Amazon.
How did you come up with ideas for this book?
I learned from my work in the financial industry that the biggest mistake that people make is not knowing where their money is going. So I framed the book around that. There are exercises to complete and lists to create so you can understand how you spend your money and why. That is really the first step to effective money management.
What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?
That you can live your best life without going broke! You can do your best in the areas of food & health, travel & entertainment, saving & spending if you learn how to handle your money effectively and plan first.
What’s next for you?
Thrive!…Affordably is the foundation for a lifestyle series. There will be two more books and also products around the theme of “living your best life without breaking the bank.”
