I am a mother of two and a first time children’s book author of Graceful Gabby Finds Love In Blue. I am a warm spirit who enjoys reading, mentoring girls, crafting, writing and photography. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family hosting family gatherings and watching movies.
How do you find time to connect with God?
I have to carve out quiet time to pray and connect with God. I find that early in the morning before getting my daughter ready for school and late at night when everything are great times to reflect, pray and seek guidance and direction from God.
Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?
Maya Angelou is my all time favorite author. After reading I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings when I was a young teen, I was inspired to write about my own life by keeping daily journals. I can not leave out Langston Hughes. His poem Mother to Son has always been an inspiration to me and in some ways mirror my own life and relationship with my son.
4. Tell us about your journey to publication.
My journey to publication has been a long one. I spent a lot of time researching traditional publishing as well as self-publishing. In order to get my book released faster I chose to self-publish. Although it was a long process, I have proven to myself that it is attainable and I am extremely pleased with the finished product.
5. Tell us about your current book?
Graceful Gabby Finds Love In Blue is a bright and cheerful children’s book purposed to inspire children to love God and inspire them to daily practice and share the Fruit of the Spirit with others. In this first book of the series, Graceful Gabby is excited about her new room but she’s disappointed that everything in her room is not “pinky” perfect. With the help of her grand ma-ma, Graceful Gabby learns to recognize and share the special gift of love with others and to appreciate the love of family.
How did you come up with ideas for this book?
The book is actually based on a real life event with my daughter. When researching on writing children’s books, I found that experienced writers recommended that you should write about what you know and about topics that children will be able to connect with. When my daughter was so taken aback that her room was not perfect because the walls were blue, I knew that was my story.
What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?
I want parents to be able to use the book as a teaching tool for their children. The most valuable lesson to receive from this book is for our children to learn about and to begin to practice in their own lives the Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Also, I want Gabby’s audience to learn the value in being appreciative even when they receive something that they do not like and to appreciate and value the genuine love of family.
What’s next for you?
Well, I want to continue the Graceful Gabby series and it is my vision to expand the Graceful Gabby brand into other inspirational products and events for mother’s and daughter’s.
