THE GROWING WRITER | My Publishing Experience by Elizabeth L. Chalker

Elizabeth L. Chalker join us this week on her Hanging On by the Scratch Marks My Nails Left Behind Blog Tour (A Write Now Lit Virtual Book Tour).  She shares her publishing experience with us today. Welcome, Elizabeth!

Hello world! I have been asked to share my publishing experience with you. I had a wonderful, enjoyable experience self-publishing with Xulon Press. I began writing ten plus years ago as a catharsis to life struggles and for the purpose of recording insights of the world around me. Through suffering with serious, physical disease that has taken my life yet left me alive; I have been afforded a unique and valuable perspective in this human experience.

Writing came as a flow for me, where I could not find pen and paper fast enough. I began to share my writings with others and found that they were inspired and that the writings provoked deep thought that went beyond the superficial of logic and reasoning. People started telling me I needed to publish my writings, that they were God inspired and would bless so many.

As I began to consider publishing, being very ill and not able to work any longer, I did not have the energy or health to go out and market my book or my message. I decided to self publish and began the Internet journey of learning about various self-publishing companies. I could not decide on whom to trust. A Pastor friend shared Xulon Press with me, a Christian self-publishing company that he had published many of his books through. I made contact with one of the Xulon Press representatives and began the process. Having not been able to work for several years, I did not have the finances to cover the self-publishing costs. I prayed and trusted that if God wanted my writings to be made into a book and published, He would provide the finances; and the grace and strength to organize my writings into chapters, write an introduction and a conclusion.

God brought a contribution through someone who is now a dear friend, to cover the publishing costs. Another friend helped me to organize my writings into chapters. God gave me the strength and grace to write the introduction and conclusion, and to edit. The staff at Xulon Press became trusted friends (see my acknowledgments) and rallied around me to find an editor who would work with me financially, and within my limitations. Xulon Press partnered with me every step of the way, from my book cover graphics (designed by Gabriel Cameron) to deciding on paperback or hardcover, to hearing the message of my book, to font size and presentation. Their support was unparalleled and humbling. I had a team of experts at Xulon Press to help with each and every part of publishing.

If you are considering self-publishing a book, I highly recommend working with Xulon Press. However, no matter who you choose to self- publish with, make sure it’s a company that has expertise in publishing with ethics, integrity and one with reputable knowledge on every aspect of the publishing experience. Additionally, choose a publishing company that has your best interest as the priority; someone who will hear you, listen to your wishes and needs; who will go the extra mile to help ensure your book is published the way you want it to be, and with the utmost integrity. Publishing a book in and of itself requires a lot of patience, tenacity, time, and energy. Help yourself by working with a publishing company that is invested in the like as a partner with you!

About The Author

Elizabeth Chalker is still in the furnace of life’s’ calamities and fighting the good fight of faith and endurance, keeping her eyes on the prize of heaven. Before serious, physical illness devastated her body, Elizabeth was on the fast track as a successful psychologist and addictions specialist, working with violent juvenile offenders and their families, near completion of her third graduate degree. Her life is a testimony of faith that is steadfast and remains no matter the seemingly dark, unjust, and treacherous circumstances of life. She resides in Lighthouse Point, Florida. Elizabeth continues to minister to those in need and aspires to show God’s glory through every breath she takes.

This is a real life story of being in the fire, where I currently remain, where my heart for the Lord has become increasingly insatiable. A deepened intimacy has developed and continues to grow even through this very moment, and will continue beyond. As you read, this is my hope and prayer for you as well.

Foreword by Pastor Charles Carrin and Dr. Corey Cameron

You—one person—an individual, can literally change this whole world with love. By focusing on love, making a choice to love, feeding all that is positive, good, and of the light with exuberance and abundance instead of feeding the negative and evil things of the darkness. You can literally change the world and yourself. One relationship–one interaction–one decision at a time.

If you are experiencing the dark night of the soul in affliction year after year, it will present you, as it has me, with opportunities not found in most other life circumstances.

This is a life story of being in the fire, where I currently remain, where my heart for the Lord has become increasingly insatiable. A deepened intimacy has developed and continues to grow even through this very moment, and will continue beyond. As you read, this is my hope and prayer for you as well.

Woo oo you’re on the road. I pray that this will be a super successful tour and why should it not be. With such a stunning testimony and the show of God’s hand in getting published, there’s no doubt that He wants this book not only published but going places and achieve the purpose for which it is intended.
