INTERVIEW | Stacy-Deanne

Stacy, describe yourself for our visitors.

Well I am a proud Texas girl. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I still live here. I am single and I have no kids or pets. I’m 6’0 feet tall by the way. I started pursuing writing professionally at 19. My main genre is mystery and crime fiction with interracial romance subplots. I have always been a mystery and thriller lover. My idol is Alfred Hitchcock. I am a simple girl who is easy to please. I wouldn’t say I am antisocial but I am an introvert. I prefer to spend time alone more than being with a crowd. I love helping people and I love to encourage people to follow their dreams.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

I am a big lover of classic literature. My favorite books include The Portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson and Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. My favorite authors include Edgar Allan Poe, Agatha Christie, Linda Howard and Kay Hooper.

Tell us about your current book?

Giving up the Ghost is my fourth release. It’s the first installment of my new Interracial Romantic Suspense series. The series focuses on the interracial pairing of Albany Detective Brianna “Bree” Morris who is black and her partner and ex-lover, Detective Steven Kemp who is white.

Bree’s friend Cheyenne Wilson is brutally attacked and left for dead. Bree makes it her mission to find out who is behind the attack. The investigation leads her to a group of characters that all seem to have a hand in what happened. She finds herself attracted to one in particular, Simon Watts and becomes romantically involved with him despite Steven’s belief that Simon could be Cheyenne’s attacker. All the while Bree is being stalked by a sadistic predator that might have something to do with the attack as well.

There are tons of twists in the book and I believe fans of the genre will be pleased. The book has been nominated for a 2011 African-American Literary Award in the Mystery category.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

Bree and Steven debuted in my 2008 novel, “Melody”. I fell in love with them immediately. There was so much more I wanted to do with them after that story. I also got a lot of feedback from readers about how much they enjoyed the duo. So I decided to do a series and I am really enjoying it.

What’s next for you?

That would be “The Season of Sin” which is the second installment in the Bree and Steven Series. It will be released December 2011. This time Bree and Steven are thrown into a homicide case when psychiatrist Nadia Hollister is murdered. It’ll be plenty of suspense, plenty of passion and plenty of twists and turns.
