INTERVIEW | Dr. Florida T. Morehead

Pastor Morehead, describe yourself.
A real down-to-earth friendly person. I love the Lord, family and people; caring, compassionate, and forgiving. I have learned to be content and enjoy each day that the Lord allows me to see.

How do you find time to connect with God?
The first standing appointment in my iPad is “Reconnect with God” so I am very deliberate. I have come to a place in my relationship with God where we have this constant open-line communication. He is in every moment. I have awesome praise and worship in the shower.

Do you have a favorite bible verse and or quote you wish to share?
Psalm 34:1 – “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?
Wow! It varies depending on the seasons of my life. But I would say, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Linda Hollies, Joyce Myer, Myles Munroe. My favorite books: “The Purpose & Power of Praise & Worship,” “Don’t Die in the Winter,” &” The Shack”

Tell us about your journey to publication.
The operative word is definitely “journey.” I have known since high school that I had a gift to write. But it never occurred to me to write my own book until my mentor Dr. Hollies ask me to write a segment in one of her books. After writing my 200 page dissertation in 2005, I knew it was time, Even though I still procrastinated, God wouldn’t let me keep it inside. I went away for a week in the Fall of 2009 to begin the process, and there was a 3-month delay in 2010. But the fire was ignited by then and I finished writing in November 2010.

Tell us about your current book.
Embracing the Desperate Moments of Life will encourage, equip, and empower people as they go through those critical, urgent and even dangerous moments. Because it is a given on this journey called life that all of us will encounter desperate moments, we need to know how to get through them. This book gives insight into how to handle the night seasons of life when they come, because they will come. To embrace means to deal with or accept willingly. This book helps people understand that they can make it through their desperate moments whether of short or long duration. It is a fact that things will change. The subtitle of the book is a major turning point for most people; to recognize that God is in the moment. He is in it with us. Therefore we are never alone and His presence and power gives us what we need as we go through.

What influenced you to write this book?
As a pastor, I encounter people almost daily who are facing desperate moments. Even though they may have a relationship with God, the pressures of life are often overwhelming. This book was also birthed out of my own personal desperate moments (death of both parents, my only brother, open heart surgery, stroke, and divorce) that I learned to embrace during the process.

Are you available for speaking engagements? What are some of your popular topics?
Yes I am available for speaking engagements, conferences, seminars, book clubs, etc. It can cover a range of topics depending on the audience. I do a Wednesday Noon Day MED (Moment of Empowerment with Drflo) weekly via teleconference. All of which will encourage, equip, empower, and inspire.

What’s next for you?
Well there are several more books inside, and the plan is to begin the next one this Fall for an early 2012 publication. I do plan to become more active in blogging on my website.
