INTERVIEW | C.M. Jones

Describe yourself for our visitors.

I am a Christian woman first, then a military Spouse; a Mother; an Author/Entrepreneur and high school Teacher. I love to read, cook and spend time with my family. My family is currently stationed in Kaiserslautern Germany and we love it. I am also an Eastern Star and I am very active with my local chapter in Germany because I love to give back to my community. My husband and I co-own HortonJones, Inc., a small publishing company, and we pray that one day HortonJones, Inc. will be a multi-million dollar corporation.

How do you find time to connect with God?

Connecting with God is a priority for me and I believe that whatever is important to me, I should make time for. So, I pray with my family each morning; I read my bible and meditate on daily devotionals even if it’s only on my iPhone apps, but I do have a study bible as well. I also attend a local church regularly, Christian House of Prayer- Europe, in Landstuhl Germany; and I am constantly praying for God to lead and guide me and my husband in our daily decisions and actions.

Do you have a favorite bible verse and or quote you wish to share?

I have many favorite bible verses. The one that is my favorite at this time is 2 Timothy 2:16 “Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.” This is my favorite verse right now because I know that there is a blessing in being able to control the most unruly member of our bodies, the tongue.

I also have many favorite quotes, but here is one that I really love: “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” — Robert Frost. I love this quote because it is a reminder that regret and worry are both senseless things.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

My favorite author is Kendra Norman-Bellamy, I will stop whatever I am doing and read any of her books; she is amazing and so humbled. I also like Michelle Stimpson, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Lily Ratliff, the late BeBe Moore Campbell and many others. As far as my favorite books, I love anything by Kendra Bellamy as well as a book by T. d. Jakes, Naked and Not Ashamed.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

My journey to publication was not one with many bumps in the road because I knew what I wanted. I knew exactly what I wanted everything to look like and how I wanted it marketed, etc., so I quickly came to the conclusion that I needed to self-publish. Shortly after that my husband and I decided to open our own publishing company, HortonJones, Inc., and the rest is history.

Tell us about your current book.

My current book, He Left Me, like all of my work is a Christian based short novel. This book is about a family from Ghana West Africa with a lot of family secrets and issues that have plagued their family for years but no one wants to talk about it, not the grandparents, or the parents. However the children are different, they want to move on and pursue their dreams and love, among other things but because of the weight of the family secrets they are having a hard time. However, when one of the parents give his religious beliefs all of his attention, he finds out that what the family thought were just secrets are actually generational curses and he decides to do something about it.

What influenced you to write this book?

All of my work is inspired by my relationship with Christ. I write to entertain people and at the same time teach people, through fiction, how to deal with real life problems and this book is no different.

Did you have a favorite character(s)? Who and why?

My favorite character is Emoni; she is the oldest daughter of the family. I like her because she is determined to reach her goals no matter what. She has to go against her family, even her mother at times but she does not let anything break her spirit.

What’s next for you?

Right now, I am in school pursuing my Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership so I will not be writing another novel for a few years, at least that’s not my intention. I will however continue to tour and promote the three books that I already have and I am also compiling a book of poems that I have written over the years. As far as my publishing company goes, I have three new authors that I am working with to try and help them release their books soon.

Where can visitors find you online?
