INTERVIEW | Aleshia Robinson

Aleshia, describe yourself for our visitors.

I was born and raised in Chicago but I’ve also lived in Louisiana, Texas, California, Nevada and more recently, Atlanta, Georgia. I received my Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Houston. Always curious by the spiritual world, I’ve meddled with the yoga sutras, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Universalism before ending my spiritual journey. Tired of being unfulfilled, confused and unhappy, I became obsessive compulsive with learning the truth about God and decided to take the plunge and give my life to Christ on August 17, 2007. I didn’t really believe in Jesus when I got saved. I just figured I’ve tried other religions, why not try Christianity?. My life has not been the same. Since then I’ve traveled on a missions trips, graduated Bible College, wrote my first novel and founded, Authenticity Print, a publishing company intending to awaken souls to the true heart of God.

How do you find time to connect with God?

I make time. Nothing is more important to me than His Word so I bought a One Year Bible and read my Scriptures either before or after work depending on what is going on. I also have an audio bible I listen to in the car and at work.

Do you have a favorite bible verse and or quote you wish to share?

Genesis 1:26-27; 31

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

This Scripture transformed my life. I am created in the image of God and everything about me is good. My skin color is good. My hair is good. My facial features are good. My body makeup is good. I have spent alot of time in my life listening to society define beauty for me and I never felt like I measured up to their standards since I wasn’t mixed and didn’t have European features. It wasn’t until I entered a relationship with God that I learned MY MAKER molded me in HIS image and He views me as ALL GOOD. And not only that but He gave me dominion over this Earth which literally means just as Jesus lived in this Earth so I have the capacity to live in the Earth because I am designed and fashioned just like My Father. And so are you!

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

Honestly my favorite book is the Bible. I do read non-fiction quite often but there aren’t any authors I just HAVE to read except for His Word.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

This is a funny question to me cause I didn’t even know I was on the journey. I NEVER wanted to be a writer but a dancer instead and moved to Los Angeles twice to do so. Writing has never been a pastime for me except for journaling. I was literally siting in bible college one day and the instructor said “I want you guys to write a 1-2 page testimony about the goodness of God.” I scanned around the room and felt that the majority of the stories would be the same since all my classmates were raised in church. So I decided to create a character who wasn’t raised in church and take the testimony from that angle. That was back in November 2009. While writing the story I was getting excited about the road to self publishing but my roommate (whose been in the publishing business for 25 years) told me I need to get an agent. Begrudgingly I listened to her and queried about 28 agents. After my second rejection letter I started looking for an editor, cover designer, interior formatter and bought the domain name, Authenticity Print.

Tell us about your current book.

Alcatraz: The Lost Pearl is about a 15 year old tattoo artist who is trying to find the truth about God. She went from living in the perfect family in San Diego to fending for her life on the streets of Los Angeles. Being an artist by nature she finds her world in the tattoo scene of Hollywood. Always interested in the spiritual world Alcatraz travels down many roads to see what religion makes sense to her and which God is the true God. But she is no ordinary seeker. Extremely sensitive to the spiritual world, Alcatraz is constantly having encounters with spiritual entities and is being chased by supernatural forces.

What influenced you to write this book?

The Spirit influenced me initially but the harvest of spiritual seekers kept me going. There are alot of people who aren’t welcomed in the church that Jesus is desperately trying to reach. This book is my attempt to reach them.

Did you have a favorite character(s)? Who and why?

While Alcatraz is the protagonist of the book her best friend Kuriko is my favorite character. I can’t say too much about her now cause her story doesn’t fully develop until book two but I’ll just say she will open up your mind to the 32 billion dollar illegal crime plaguing our world today.

What’s next for you?

Alcatraz is the first book in the trilogy, Love, God & Tattoos. After I finish the trilogy this year I will start adapting the books into a screenplay then produce into film.
