INTERVIEW | Stephanie L. McKenny

Stephanie, describe yourself for our visitors

I am a Christian woman who happens to be a minister of the gospel, pastor’s wife, mother, grandmother, student and an author all wrapped up in one. Whew! I didn’t realize I wear that many hats! I have always had a love for books and I have being writing on and off since I was a young girl.

How do you find time to connect with God?

Usually my time with God is late at night while everyone else is asleep. I’m really not an early riser, but I’m usually on the night watch.

Do you have a favorite bible verse and or quote you wish to share?

I have two favorite Bible verses that constantly remind me of what God is going to do for me and through me.

Proverbs 23:18 – For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

Philippians 1:6 – Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Tell us about your current book.

My current book is called, Pearls and Swine Don’t Mix – Is Mr. Right…Really Right? However, after working with my copy editor, Robin Caldwell of The J Standard Media Group, LLC, we have come to the conclusion that the name of the book will be: Clutch Your Pearls, Girl! – Sister Wisdom to Protect Your Treasure. Any woman can read the book and glean from it, but there are specific messages for single women. The book can be purchased online at www.word4women.org and it is listed under the books/magazine tab.

Relationships are what keep us all connected. Every woman wants a man of her own whether she wants to admit to it or not. We all have an innate desire to love and to be loved. However, there are some relationships we should never entertain. Getting entangled in unhealthy relationships can damage a woman emotionally and physically; leaving scars that may last a lifetime, which causes many women to settle for mistreatment in relationships.

This book is filled with woman-to-woman wisdom on bringing awareness of healthy and unhealthy relationships, exposing swine characteristics in men and pointers on helping you become the woman God intended for you to be.

What influenced you to write the book?

I was influenced to write the book based on some of my own personal experiences and because I recognized that many women were experiencing different kinds of abuse and mistreatment in relationships. I would often see women in churches who loved God, but were ensnared by the wrong kings of relationships.

This book was also actually birthed from the scripture, Matthew 7:6. I read that scripture one day and it was as if the text jumped right at me. As a result, it became a teaching at a women session at my church and from there God continued to whisper the words into my spirit, which formed into a book.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?

I hoping that women would begin to love themselves and see themselves the way God sees them so that they won’t settle for mistreatment in their relationships. There is some wisdom shared about relationships, dating, your children and also some signs for women to look for while dating to determine whether they are hooked up with a swinish man or a good man.

What’s next for you?

I am continuing to write. I am going to be working on a Clutch Your Pearls, for Teen Girls! I am also working on two novels. One of which I am revising and the other novel is something new. The revised novel is, Issues of Life (received a 4.5 review from Rawsistaz.com in 2006) and the new one will be called, Lies that Divide.

I will also be working on Clutch Your Pearls Workshops for women around the world. I am working with woman who works with a domestic violence organization and has had her own life experiences with toxic relationships. I will be donating $1 from each book sold to a local domestic violence organization (Sister Care, Inc.). I hope that people will purchase the book to help the fight against domestic violence.

Where can visitors find you online?

For now I can be found on www.word4women.org. I am making preparations now to set up another website soon to tell more about my books and my mission. Most likely it will be: www.stephanielmckenny.com – so look for it soon! I plan to get on Facebook, Youtube and Twitter also, but for now www.word4women.org is where you can find me.

    Stephanie,

I love the title of your book. I have several young ladies who could use this manual.
