Beautiful Ugly discusses the issues that many women, young and old deal with at some point in life. Those issues being bouts of low self-esteem, feeling of low-self worth and self consciousness. In the story Beautiful Ugly, Envy Wilson, Layla Hobbs and Kacie Mayweather are three 30 year old friends who rely heavily on one another for support in troubled times.

Not Double the Fun
Zaria Garrison introduces us to Phylicia Morgan and Phoebe Cox, twin sisters with an estranged relationship. Phylicia is a stay-at-home, wife and mother to the Reverend Gary Morgan. Phoebe is financially stable and seems to be living the American dream. Phylicia, on the other hand, is a flighty diva, the go for broke type that loves to keep up with the Jones’, or in this case, the Morgans.
The plot thickens when the twins’ mother falls ill, taking a turn for the worse, and asks Phylicia to call Phoebe home. When Phoebe gets to Brown Bottom, painful feelings resurface for both of the twins. Phylicia can’t help but sense that something is awry when mystery teen, Pharrah, shows up on her door step. Phoebe’s jealousy overcomes her to the point where all she can do is think of how she can have the life her sister has, including her man, the Reverend Gary.

Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:1-5, NKJV).
We are living in a time where, unfortunately, society lives and dies by the judgment which it doles out. If judgment, on any level, is not executed, the world’s system would most likely perish. The ideology of people is the very basis of worldly riches. If you pick up the latest fashion magazines, music reviews and the like, it is laden with judgment as to what is the latest trend and what is considered out of style. Regrettably, these fads change so rapidly that most people have fits of dizziness while trying to keep up with it all. As the seasons change, so does the make-up. Seemingly as the hour changes, the hottest fashion designer has become lukewarm or has found their home on a snow-capped mountain somewhere.

I am 42 year old man who loves to read and who has had a desire to write and publish since I was a boy. I was born and raised in Cleveland and I have lived in Mississippi, West Virginia, Virginia and Texas. I am married and I have one son. Envision yourself overtaken in the biggest flood imaginable. The water collapses upon the heads of the people all in one continual dropping. The force of the water causes buildings to explode off of their foundations. The sheer force of the waterfall causes concrete to crack and seemingly immovable objects to float down the road like a life support device. Crops are destroyed, and any unfortunate soul that stands in the way is overcome by the brute strength of the tidal wave.

As I was mediating on the title, and the timing of this writing, the Lord brought back to my memory an act of faith declaration that I made in 1989 before I was a Believer. I remembered on New Year’s Eve night going to church for one hour before I went to the party. Before I went to the service and during the service , I told the Lord that I had spent the entire decade of the 80’s on drugs and alcohol, and that I would not enter into the 90’s or even waste another decade of my life in that condition. Well, the result was the conviction of the Holy Spirit which led to my salvation in 1991. There was never a day of rehab or a counseling program. It was a day of declaration and one step towards Jesus that was my deliverance. The power of life and death was on my tongue even before I was saved or knew where the scripture was that operated and produced the result in my life! (Proverbs 18:21).
