BILL GATES SCHOLARSHIP FOR LOW-INCOME MINORITY STUDENTS

Fairfax, VA (BlackNews.com) — The Gates Millennium Scholarship Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established to provide outstanding low income minority students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest.
Continuing scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following discipline areas: education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science.
In addition to increasing access to higher education for these underrepresented groups, GMS also provides leadership training. Through participation in a comprehensive leadership development program, Scholars enhance academic and leadership skills, which prepare them to assume important roles in their professions and in their communities.
The deadline for the upcoming scholarship awards is January 11, 2010.

Hearts Holding the Word
Hearts Holding the Word
by Becky DeWitt
The Christ in Christmas can never be substituted.
Every year during this season, many are celebrating the birth of Jesus. From an early age, we have heard the word “Christ” in Christmas, celebrating the Gift with gifts. Retailers have tried to replace the word “Christ” with an X. The have even made an attempt to change the phrase “Merry Christmas” to something that would be politically correct. But the seed of the word “Christ” is so planted deep in our hearts that even the unbeliever will rise up in defense against any change.
INTERVIEW | Aisha (A.Life) Gant
Aisha, describe yourself for our visitors.
Wow! What can I say? (LOL) I am who I am. I am a mother of 2 girls, I am an author/poet, I am an owner/operator of a salon, I am an entrepreneur(I created and patented the Ears Free Hair Wrap), and I am a personal trainer (who needs personal training)(LOL) BUT MOST OF ALL, I am a child of God with a sense of humor; who believes if I can’t smile or laugh about any and every situation, I must remove myself immediately! I love laughter and because laughter doeth good like a medicine, I figure; I can’t complain about anything! If I did, it wouldn’t change nothing ‘no way!’ (smiles) Just be happy, On purpose!
INTERVIEW | Shawneda Marks
December 1st is World’s Aids Day. Today, author Shawneda Marks joins us to talk about her very timely book release, It’s in My Blood.
Shawneda, describe yourself for our visitors.
Wow…umm I”m a spunky, energetic down to earth chick who loves God, my hubby, family, words green living and lotsa things in between. I’m trusting God to show me how to write, read and promote books full time.
How do you find time to connect with God?
I never find the time…I have to make it. Life is hectic for everyone…always something else to be done, so I make myself take moments throughout the day to love on Him. He is my first point of contact in the morning and last conversation at night. I’m not real deep with it, we talk, I read his book, then I grow.
