THE JOURNEY | Believing In the Power of His Blood

Believing In the Power of His Blood
by Becky DeWitt

Recently, I was sharing my testimony during a phone call and realized that the person had no idea of the depth of my deliverance for the salvation that I had received. See, I was telling the true testimony, the one that many in the Body of Christ need to release. The one that says I went through and will continue the process on the journey as I stay on the potter’s wheel being formed by His hand with the finishing touch.

I had not seen this person in over 20 years since leaving New York to move to Myrtle Beach. So, when I began to speak about Jesus and how I was delivered from a lifestyle that was the highway to hell, the response was one of shock and unbelief. The statement was “I could never imagine you in that state.” Even though I have heard this before on many occasions, my response was, “why not me?”

You see, the power of the blood of Jesus is such divine power that the cleansing of the stain of sin is eradicated when there is the new birth experience. This experience is so powerful that the internal will began to manifest externally to change your countenance and every fiber of your being. Some will see that there is something different about you.

One of the most powerful revelations that I received early in my walk, was that Jesus had loved me with an everlasting love, was mindful of me, had a plan for me, and most importantly, He waited for me. He held back the hand of enemy long enough for me to make a conscious decision to come to Him. Jesus had his eye on me, waiting and knowing the day that I would recognize and realize who He was. Even in the depth of my despair, He refused to let the enemy carry out the plan for my destruction.

Many take the price of His redemption lightly. One of the most fascinating but confusing aspects of the price is the lack of confidence in the power of the shed blood of Jesus. We tend to get caught up in the terminology of ‘pleading the blood of Jesus.’ Some prefer to apply the blood. Whatever approach one may take, it is still the blood of the Holy One that cleanses, redeems, reconciles, and sustains.

Bible history gives the account of the beginning of the shedding of blood to atone for sin with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They tried to cover their sin, their disobedience, their loss of the glory of God with leaves. (Gen. 3:7). You cannot replace the supernatural covering of the Creator which gives you access to His presence with a natural part of His creation.

The temporary solution was the shedding of the blood of animals to make skins to cover Adam and Eve. (Gen. 3:21). The Old Testament reveals the pattern of shedding blood for sacrifice. The High Priest had to go behind the veil and sprinkle the blood of a bullock or a goat seven times upon the mercy seat. (Lev. 16:19). But we have the excellent sacrifice. A High Priest “who needeth not daily as those high priest to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then the people: for this he did once, when he offered up himself”. ( Heb. 7:17).

Just think about the awesome plan of God. The Creator, the one who said “let us make man in our image, after our likeness and let them have dominion”, gives Jesus the signal to come to earth in the form of man to defeat the enemy again.(Gen 1:26). Remember satan was kicked out of heaven. “And he said unto them, I beheld satan as lightning fall from heaven”. (Luke 10:18). Jesus was THE sacrifice to take back all authority, “which none of the prices of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” (1 Cor. 2:8). Besides, Jesus had to fulfill the Word of God that was spoken through the mouth of the prophets of old, which did not return void or empty, but was complete in the accomplishment.

There is power in the Name and the Blood of Jesus. His name is more excellent than any other name in existence. The sound of His name out of the mouth of a Believer causes vibrations in the earth as well as the heavens. “Therefore, because He stooped so low, God had highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name. That in, at , the name of Jesus every knew should, must bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, And every tongue, frankly and openly, confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father”. (Phil. 2:9-11 AMP).

The Name of Jesus plus the Blood of Jesus speaks of a new and everlasting covenant. His one time sacrifice entered behind the veil into the Holy of Holies and hit the mercy seat to make atonement for our sins. If we have accepted Him, when the Father sees us, He sees the blood, the sacrifice of His precious Son.

Jesus, God in flesh stepping down to the earth to become a sacrifice, outwitted the enemy. There was no clue that the blood of the Creator would be shed for creation. If the Israelites used the blood of a lamb for Passover, how much power is in the blood of Jesus for us who have accepted Him for the new covenant? “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that, and shudder.” (James 2:19 NIV).

Are we going to let the enemy continue to deceive us about the power of the Blood of Jesus? When you start talking, singing, and applying the Blood, the attack is on. The moment may be fierce, but the attack is a distraction because the enemy is trembling all the while. The irony of it all is that the enemy believes in the power of the Blood more that you do and does not want you to have that knowledge. The attack is his movement to dodge the power of your faith in the blood. The reaction is to your faith. There is no blood that speaks like the Blood of Jesus.

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.  For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:  How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

(Hebrew 9:12-14)
