It’s the perfect time of the year for catching up on reading while enjoying the lazy days of summer.  Enjoy our summer reading series as we introduce a different fiction or nonfiction author each Wednesday from now until Labor Day.

image Mesha Coleman originally from Oklahoma City is number six of eleven children and credits her strong matriarchic linage for her creative spirit and tenacity. Some authors are born to write while others acquire a love for writing along life’s journey.  Mesha has always loved to write poetry but not until attending a spoken word event was she inspired to write a play which turned into her first novel “A Big Girl’s Blues”.

In, A Big Girl’s Blues Mesha Coleman captures the essence of a woman’s battle with weight. It is a tale of a woman’s battle with weight and the influence it has on her self-worth and self-esteem. Her struggle impacts not only her but also her family and friends especially her young daughter. Through several eye opening events she is forced to take a journey of self-discovery learning to love the skin she is in.
