INTERVIEW | Jessica A. Robinson

Jessica, describe yourself for our visitors.

I would like to describe myself as a very upbeat and positive person. I am also a basketball fanatic so I love to play and keep up with my favorite team The Lakers. I love to read and I also like to listen to Lecrae, Mary Mary, and Canton Jones. I’m also in a hip hop group named Carnival and I enjoy ministering the word through our music.

How do you find time to connect with God?

I find time to connect with God through my personal prayer time and reading the Word of God. The personal time I spend with God establishes my connection.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

My favorite authors would have to be Kendra Norman Bellamy, Dwan Abrams Kimberla Lawson Roby, Karen E. Quinones Miller, T. Styles, and Sister Souljah. My favorite books are: The Coldest Winter Ever, Black and Ugly, Casting the first stone, and Divorcing the Devil.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

My actual journey to publication started in June 2007. I had just completed my manuscript and really didn’t know what to do next so I started to research about the literary industry. Once I studied a little while I realized that I needed an editor and through networking on Myspace I linked up with Rhonda Crowder who has been absolutely wonderful in helping to get my novel ready. Through the networking that I have done online, God allowed me to meet the right people and that is what ultimately led to me becoming published.

Tell us about your current book?

My debut novel, Holy Seduction, deals with lies, infidelity, and deceit among leaders in the church. The main character in my novel is a pastor’s wife who is living a double life that no one knows about and all of the trials and tribulations she gets caught up with as a result of it.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

The ideas for this book and the storyline just came to me one day. One day I sat down at the computer because I was bored and the story just flowed out of me.

What’s next for you?

What’s next for me? Well definitely more juicy, thought provoking novels. I plan to really work hard at perfecting my craft and do everything I can to establish my name and my genre.

Definitely thought-provoking! And sadly too often true enough.
    Thank you for sharing.
