Christmas Traditions
Linda Beed

Our desire as a family has always been to keep Christmas centered around Christ.  In order to do that my husband and I along with our extended family sought to create traditions that are fun and can be passed on to our generations.

There are three traditions that the Beed family holds dear. The first is the exchanging of Christmas ornaments. Each year our children have received new ornaments. When they married they received their ornaments as one of their wedding gifts. They now share the tradition with their children.

Christmas for our family also brings out the competitive side of us as we throw down at the annual family cook off.

The third tradition is one I absolutely feel blessed to have. Due to the growth of our family via marriage, getting together for holidays is very strategic. In order to relieve some of the pressure, my grandchildren move in with us the night before Christmas Eve. We all have new pajamas, bake, play games and snack out while watching movies.  Before the drift off we read the story of the Nativity to them and encourage them to ask any questions they have about Christ or share their thoughts.

On Christmas Eve morning they get up and open their presents with us. We have brunch then do whatever comes to mind before they go off with their parents later that evening.

Those are great traditions Linda! I have a co-worker and a few friends over the years who have traded ornaments. Sounds like you have a lot of fun especially with the grandchildren in the mix. 🙂

Looking forward to talking to you and the other Damascus Road authors on the podcast.

    Blessings,
