The Good Old Days

There is a saying that is used often called "the good old days."  I think of my two sons at this time of year, and when they were just small boys. I think of them as gifts given to me as a blessing from God.  Now that they’re adults we are making new, fresh memories that include grandchildren.

But as  a single mom, I think about each year when my youngest son would play Silent Night on an antique keyboard every year.  He studied piano in elementary school and for years we enjoyed hearing him tapping out each key.  We’d sit around during the days preceding Christmas and talk about the real meaning of Christmas and the reason we celebrate it. I’d make them their favorite Happy Birthday Jesus cake, and on Christmas day, after opening gifts and attending church, we’d eat and then sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.

I loved those days and those precious memories can never be replaced.  I only pray that each year we remember to set aside time to celebrate Christ’s birth, and  that we will grow and grow instead of being pushed aside by things that don’t relate at all to the real reason for the season – the birth of Christ our Savior.

Merry Christmas to all and a prosperous, awe inspiring new year as we move into a new time in history that has never before been experienced.  May God Bless our new First Family and the newly elected President Barack H. Obama!  And as always, Happy Birthday, Jesus!

Thanks for sharing with us this week Shelia. Many blessings to your family and enjoy your grandchildren. Children are so much fun to watch this time of the year. We should have that same joy and excitement about celebrating Jesus’ birthday.
