INTERVIEW | Nikita Lynette Nichols

N ikki, describe yourself for our visitors.

I’m a city girl, born and raised on the south side of Chicago that craves milk chocolate.  Old school music is my favorite but I’m also rooted in my church.

How do you find time to connect with God?

Just as I see, hear, taste, touch and smell, my time with God is something that’s automatic.  But my most intimate time with Him is early in the morning before work.  I’ve found that if I skip my time with Him, my day can very easily go awry.  So, it’s extremely important that I make God my 1st. priority.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

I’m a huge fan of black literature.  I don’t rule out any specific genre.  If the synopsis of a novel grabs my attention, I’ll buy the book.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

My journey to publication was a long one.  I submitted my manuscript to Urban Books about 3  months prior to signing a 2-book deal.  But I have 2 years worth on rejection letters from various publishing houses.  Getting published was one of the most difficult tasks that I have accomplished.

Tell us about your current book?

‘A Man’s Worth’, tells the story of a friendship between two men that’s tried and tested when a beautiful female enters their lives.  My main characters, Pastor Cordell Bryson and Randall Loomis, were as close as two blood brothers until Randall met sexy Amaryllis Price.  She’s hell bent on destroying Randall’s character, pulling him away from his church and she certainly enjoys spending all of his money.  But Pastor Bryson sees Amaryllis for the devil that she is and tries, with all of his might, to warn Randall.  But Randall has already moved her into his condo to play house and he’s madly in love.  Pastor Bryson has his work cut out for him.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

Much too often, you hear of women falling for the smooth talking guy that dresses nice.  Once the relationship has started, true colors start to show and women find themselves hoodwinked and bewildered because they couldn’t see behind the mask.  I wanted to flip the script and show that men too can be tricked and trapped by vixens that are up to no good.

My 1st. novel, ‘None But The Righteous’, was published in 2004.

What’s next for you?

My next novel, ‘Amaryllis’, is part 2 of ‘A Man’s Worth’.  It releases in April, 2009.

Where can visitors find you online?
