INTERVIEW | Michael Taylor

Michael, describe yourself for our visitors.

Listen to a message from the Michael Taylor.

I consider myself to be an irrepressible optimist that always finds the positive in any situation. I have a deep passion for learning new things and I truly enjoy teaching others. I have always been a teacher at heart and my books are just a way of me expressing the things I’m passionate about and teaching others. On a personal note, I’m happily married (2nd marriage) with three grown children and feel truly blessed to be able to say that I am a great father and husband and I consider these to be my greatest accomplishments. I consider myself to be somewhat of a computer geek and when I’m not writing or speaking you’ll find me watching movies or listening to old school seventies and eighties soul music.

How do you find time to connect with God?

As a former Atheist I have learned that nothing is more important than my relationship with my Creator. I begin each day with some quiet prayer and meditation and I end each day the same way. In between, I have the opportunity to count my blessings and acknowledge my God for this amazing gift called life.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

I actually never dreamed of being a writer. I became a speaker first and then I learned that the easiest way to get speaking engagements was to become an author. So I started my writing career as a secondary passion. My first book was rejected by more than 60 publishers so I self published it. It did fairly well and I still sell a few copies online. My current book was picked up by the first publisher I submitted it to which confirmed for me that the time was right for my message.

Tell us about your current book.

A New Conversation With Men is about redefining what it means to be a man in todays ever-changing world. I believe that most men are really tired of the old antiquated ways of being a man and they are looking for new ways to express their manhood. In this new way of being a man, men learn the importance of balancing their emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual aspects of who they are. In doing so they are able to become better husbands, fathers and friends and they learn to become genuinely happy with their lives. This book provides men with insights and wisdom to assist them in being they best man they possibly can.

How did you come up with ideas for your current release?

I have been researching and speaking about mens issues for more than fifteen years. My books and seminars all revolve around my research about what it means to be a man. As a workshop facilitator and radio show host I am always asking deeper questions about life, when I find answers some of them end up becoming books.

If applicable, list your most recent books.

My first book was titled “Brother’s Are You Listening? A Success Guide For The new Millennium. It was published in 1995. My new book was just released in November 2008

What’s next for you?

I have committed to writing at least four more books in my lifetime. In the meantime, I want to focus on providing workshops and seminars to help spread my message. My dream is to get a copy of my book to President Obama and inspire him the way he has inspired me. I’m really excited about the future for men of all races and I believe this book will keep the momentum going especially for men of color.
