INTERVIEW | Paulette Harper

Paulette, describe yourself?

I am an ordained minister who loves God with all my heart. Some of my favorite hobbies are the obvious writing of course; I love playing board games, spades, attending movies as well as plays. I currently live in Northern California, single and enjoying the journey God has me on. I love jazz, gospel and some old school. I enjoy taking walks on the beach and spending time with my family and friends.

How do I find time to connect with God?

I realize that I cannot do anything apart from the Lord. So finding time for Him is a necessity for living. I talk to God constantly, everyday. I purpose to set aside quality time to meditate and study the scriptures for my personal enrichment and edification. Even though I’m quite active at church and now with the new book, I don’t allow outside influences to interfere with my time with Him. Faith & prayer are vital keys to the success of my life.

Who are your favorite authors and books?

I’ve enjoyed T.D. Jakes God’s leading lady and Single, married, separated and life after divorce by Miles Monroe. In the area of Christian fiction I’ve enjoyed Wanda Campbell’s book First Sunday in October.

Tell us about your journey to publication?

I love tell this story. I know some people won’t believe me but it’s totally true. I started writing in Jan of 2006 and was finished writing most of my book by March of the same year. I submitted a few chapters to Tate Publishing and they called me in April of 2006 with a two year book deal. How awesome is that? I did submit my manuscript to four other publishers and received rejection letters but I didn’t allow that to discourage me because I asked, prayed and believed God for favor with Tate and God not only answered my request but did beyond my wildest dreams. Production of my book started in September 2006 with a pre release of the book in February 2007. My book went nationwide on May 27, 2008. I believe God moved quickly to get my book to the market because it is truly a book for “right now”.

Tell us about your current book?

My book “That was Then, This is Now, This Broken Vessel Restored” is a non-fiction inspirational story. What is Non- fiction? It’s a true story based on the Authors account of actual events. It is a phenomenal and life changing story of true honesty, transparency and encouragement. Faced with divorce, I am completely open with my readers how the divorce affected me emotionally, spiritually and physically. I will enlighten the readers on my own struggles and what I did to get through a very challenging time in my life. I break down each chapter in detail having you look at yourself, a self evaluation on your life and everything in your life. This book is a page turner and highly recommended to anyone experiencing life bumps and bruises.

That was then, this is now is the first of many books.

How did you come up with the idea for this book?

Unfortunately, like so many writers my book came from a devastating period of my life. I was married for 23 years and most of that time to a Pastor. I had to believe that what God had allowed to happen had to have been for some purpose. I refused to believe that all the pain and disappointment I had experienced was in vain. I wanted God to use my story of redemption to help others experiencing some of the same problems. When God told me to write this book I was well prepared because I was completely healed of the effects of the divorce. I believe this was why it only took me only a few months to write it. This book is not full of gossip nor does it disrespect my ex the focus of the book is on how God brought me from trial to triumph.

What’s next for me?

I have started writing my second non-fiction book which will be released next year. It’s title: “Completely Whole”. As my writing career continues I want to write a novel and Christian fiction.
