BEST-SELLING AUTHOR BRENDA L. THOMAS MAKES MAJOR CONTRIBUTION TO CHARITY FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
During the month of October, Philadelphia-based, Essence best-selling author Brenda L. Thomas will donate 500 copies of her memoir, Laying Down My Burdens, to various shelters, conferences and individuals across the country who house and support victims of domestic violence. Organizations in the Philadelphia area will include, Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Women Against Abuse, and NCADV (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence). She has chosen to do this in an effort to provide encouragement and hope that there is a way out.
Since the release of her memoir in October 2007, Ms. Thomas has committed to touring the country sharing her message of L.O.U.D. (Living Out Your Dreams) reinforcing how important it is that no matter what the obstacle, you should never give up.
After coming out of a violent marriage, filled with drug abuse, in which her ex-husband would not allow her to write, Ms. Thomas became familiar with overcoming obstacles and as a result, has now been able to pursue her life-long goal of being a successful author and advocate for domestic violence. “It is my goal to see domestic violence awareness become as much a part of public efforts as breast cancer and other ills,” says Ms. Thomas.
Over the course of her literary career she has penned four bestselling novels, Threesome, Fourplay, The Velvet Rope andEvery Woman’s Got a Secret in addition to two anthologies,Four Degrees of Heat and Kiss the Year Goodbye. Ms. Thomas has received coverage through a wide variety of national media outlets, appearing on shows such as CNN,Dateline, and Entertainment Tonight.
