INTERVIEW | Tanya White

Tanya, describe yourself for our visitors.

компютри втора употребаI am a very real, down to earth and fun loving woman. I work hard but have learned how to play hard to bring balance to my life. I am Christian who loves reading, meditating and teaching others the word of God.

I love music and movies. My taste in both are very diverse. Although I am a DIE HARD New Edition fan, you still can catch me listening T.I., Jill Scott, Toby Keith, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Avril Lavigne and Chris Brown all in the same day. I love music that is empowering and tells a story. My absolute favorite movies of all time are Sparkle, Mahogany, Lady Sings The Blues, Boyz In The Hood, Imitation of Life and Coal Miner’s Daughter.

How do you find time to connect with God?

I am very intentional about making time to connect with God. Since I pour out to others through my weekly newsletter, coaching and consulting I must connect with God daily through meditation, reading the word, taking time to get away from my routine and finding time to have fun.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

My favorite authors are myself of course, Valorie Burton, Michelle McKinney-Hammond, T.D. Jakes, John Maxwell, Cherilyn Azibuke, Terry McMillian & Dr. Robin Smith.

  • How To Deal With A Difficult Woman & Relationship Reruns by Tanya White

Tell us about your journey to publication.

I knew that I was supposed to write a book back in 2000 based on a bible study I had taught to my Sunday School class. But I did not even know where to start to make that dream become a reality. I still have not finished that book. It was not until 2005 after I launched my weekly newsletter called Tanya’s Tips that I started learning about the publishing industry. I wanted to turn my newsletter into book of weekly devotionals. But I still procrastinated primarily due to fear. It was not until 2006 when I was watching 106 & Park on BET when singer Beyonce was promoting her B-Day that I got serious about writing a book. The host asked Beyonce how long it took her to finish her new cd and her response was “Two weeks”. When I heard that I was motivated to write my book. It took me 3.5 – 4 weeks to write a completed manuscript of my 1st book How To Deal With A Difficult Woman which was a relevant topic at that time in my life.

Tell us about your current book?

When you analyze the root cause of every deferred dream, delayed destiny and downward spiral that occurs in your life, you will discover that you have attached yourself to the wrong intimate relationship, friendship, business association, Christian connection or even job situation. And a vast number of us connect with people without analyzing compatibility, establishing and communicating boundaries and expectations and effectively confronting relationship conflict. So when relationship trouble comes, instead of healing from the internal insecurities and poor external choices many people end the relationship and rush into another one. Inevitably, the same problems which were in the previous relationship will follow you to the next one if you do not take time to analyze mistakes and heal your wounds.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

Healthy, productive and fulfilling relationships of all types are quickly becoming extinct. Society has programmed people to believe that relationships are supposed to be difficult and filled with drama. However, it is possible to develop and maintain relationships that are real, relevant and refreshing when you take the time to implement boundaries, expectations and effective communication.

Tell us about your other books.

I have 1 other publication entitled How To Deal With A Difficult Woman that was released in 2007. It has made the Black Christian Book Distributors Independent Publishers List in March, April and May 2008. I helped edit the book It’s In You: 12 Power Principles For Becoming The Woman God Wants You To Be by Syvoskia Bray which was released January 2008. Both books are currently available www.amazon.com. You can also purchase my 1st book via my website www.tanyawhite.com.

What’s next for you?

I am currently developing my first fiction novel which will release late summer 2009. I am excited about writing that novel. I am also helping other local and regional authors realize their publishing dreams.

How refreshing to come across another Sistah who overcame her fears, knocked the procrastination bug out of the way and just jumped in with both feet – and then excelled in her field!

    I love it!

    Good for you girl…
