National Black Book Festival

Houston, TX (BlackNews.com) – More than 100 African-American authors will participate in the first annual National Black Book Festival in Houston, Texas, May 17-18, 2008 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The Festival is co-sponsored by Cushcity.com, one of the leading Web sites featuring African-American literature, and the Houston Black Expo, the largest African-American tradeshow in the state of Texas.

The Festival is being held in conjunction with the Houston Black Expo, which is celebrating its fifth year. About 18,000 people attended the Expo last year and more than 20,000 are expected this year, including more than 50 African-American book clubs from across the U.S.

The roster of featured authors at the Festival includes:

* ReShonda Tate Billingsley, a Houstonian and author of more than a dozen books, including The Pastor’s Wife and Let the Church Say Amen

* Victor McGlothin of Dallas, Texas, author of Ms. Etta’s Fast House and Down On My Knees

* Mary B. Morrison of Oakland, Calif., author of eight books, including Sweeter Than Honey and When Somebody Loves You Back

* Big Boom of Dallas, Texas, bodyguard for comedian Steve Harvey and author of How to Duck a Suckah and If You Want Closure In Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs

* Miasha of Philadelphia, Pa., author of Sistah For Sale, Diary of a Mistress and Secret Society

* Victoria Christopher Murray of Washington, D.C., author of Christian fiction titles such as Temptation, A Sin and a Shame, Truth Be Told, and the upcoming Too Little, Too Late

In addition to author displays, discussions and signings, the Festival will also feature book writing workshops, children’s book reading sessions, and a Spoken Word Poetry Slam.
