INTERVIEW | Cecelia Dowdy

Cecelia, describe yourself for our visitors.

I love to read Christian (and some secular) fiction. I also love to listen to oldies, and I like some Christian pop music.

How do you find time to connect with God?

I usually connect with God before I go to bed. This is when I do my daily Bible reading.

Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?

There are too many to mention here! I’ve just recently "discovered" how great Karen Kingsbury’s books are, so I love reading those! I love so many authors! I have a few of them listed on my website here:http://ceceliadowdy.com/_wsn/page7.html

Tell us about your journey to publication.

It took me five and a half years to get my first book contract! This journey took a lot of networking at writers conferences and attending local writers meetings. I feel meeting with editors at writers conferences can help a writer to get a feel for what a publisher is looking for.

Tell us about your current book?

Here is a brief summary of the book:

John French, a science professor, is an agnostic–he’s unsure if God exists. When he’s hired to tutor a blind seven-year-old child, Scotty, he finds himself falling for the child’s beautiful aunt/guardian, Monica Crawford. Monica’s life changes drastically when her irresponsible younger sister abandons her handicapped son on her doorstep. As John helps Monica to educate her nephew, he falls in love with her. However, problems arise when Monica, a devout Christian, finds herself drawn to Scotty’s handsome and intelligent tutor. Monica finds herself in a bind because she knows it’s a sin to be unequally yoked with a non-believer. How in the world can these two lovebirds overcome the huge problems that stand in the way of their relationship?

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

Currently, I work at a company that employs a lot of physicists and scientists. I often wondered if there were a lot of people at my job who did not believe in God since they were so deeply embedded within the science community. My musings led me to create John’s Quest.

What’s next for you?

My third published novel, John’s Quest, will be available on March 1, 2008 from heartsongpresents.com. My fourth novel, Dollars and Scents, is tentatively set to be released December 2008. My next novel, tentatively entitled Bittersweet Memories, is may be released sometime in 2009.

I also have a women’s fiction project, entitled Southern Comfort, that I’m circulating around to different agents.

Where can visitors find you online?

I have two websites: ceceliadowdy.com and ceceliadowdy.blogspot.com
