Darn, describe yourself for our visitors.
I’m a creative being. …… being creative …… I love to write and act and I’ve also promoted nightclubs in Los Angeles ……. I’ve toured the country in a few stage plays, including ‘Living Room’, ‘Evolution Of A Soul Brother’ and ‘Every Knee Shall Bow’ …… I’ve also appeared in movies and TV shows, not to mention the numerous quiz shows I’ve been on…….My favorite music is R & B and jazz, consequently I frequent the venues here that offers good music, especially jazz ……. In fact, one of them – Cafe 290 – is featured in my novel …… lol.
How do you find time to connect with God?
I try to connect with God throughout my day…….I know that nothing is impossible, and everything that IS possible has to go through Him first…….So, when He makes things possible for me, which He does ALL the time, I always acknowledge Him and His power.
Who are your favorite authors? Favorite books?
My favorite authors are Walter Mosley, Robert Ludlum, Eric Jerome Dickey, and Marissa Monteilh…….Some of my favorite novels are The Matarese Circle, May December Souls, The Interview, and Key To Yourself.
Tell us about your journey to publication.
I’ve been writing since my high school days, I wrote a complete love story while in the tenth grade, which was instrumental in getting me on the school newspaper staff…….In my senior year I became Editor-In-Chief of The Review…….I wrote other stories after that first novel, but never completed any of them…….I didn’t know how to deal with writer’s block back then…….I later took a Creative Writing class in college, which helped me in overcoming ‘writer’s block’, and then I started on my current novel ‘Scent of An Angel’…….It took me several years to complete it because I was living life as I was writing (and some of that life is included in the story)…….But once I did finish, I sent it off to a number of potential publishers, getting a nibble here and there, until I sent it to Dwan Abrams at Nevaeh Publishing…….and here we are…..
Tell us about your current book?
It’s a love story told from the perspective of the two main characters, Copper Patterson and Doug Kenner…….The point of view switches between the two…….It’s about how two people can see the same thing, but see it differently, based on their particular point of view…….It’s about two people looking for, hoping for, longing for a soul mate…….It’s about holding out for what you want, knowing that if you put your trust in God and stay positive while living your life to the fullest, you’ll get what your heart desires…….If it’s meant for you…
How did you come up with ideas for this book?
I came up with the idea for the book from thinking about what I wanted in a woman, what I was holding out for ……. in fact, I felt compelled to write it……. It’s a story I had to get out of my system ……. Folks were always asking: Why you’re not married? What do you want in a woman? What kind of lady turns you on?…….This novel is my answer…….Copper is MY kind of a woman …….The day I wrote ‘The End’ I felt like a weight had been lifted off me. Now I’m waiting for MY Copper to appear ……. lol.
What?s next for you?
I’m now working on a series of short stories based on some of the other characters I introduced in ‘Scent Of An Angel’…….Hopefully, they will be funny …….lol……. Also, I’m putting notes together for a play that I want to write and a writer buddy in Los Angeles has talked to me about writing a screenplay together.
