PROTECT YOUR FAMILY

Columbus, OH (BlackNews.com) – Halloween has been pegged one of the most exciting and fun holidays for the family; particularly for children. While families may want to enjoy the holiday, such ones have a responsibility to protect their health in the best way possible.

That will entail everyone being aware of the health risks associated with typical eating habits around this time of year. The health alarm is the fact that Americans spend more than 1 billion annually for unhealthy, sugar and chemical laden sweets or candies – just for the Halloween holiday. The average customer spends approximately $15 on Halloween candy, and usually gets a headstart on eating these snacks days or even weeks beforehand.

When this happens, the families treat themselves and their children to massive doses of unhealthy chemicals that do nothing more than trick the body out of optimal health – in the long run.

Here are some practical and realistic healthy alternatives to utilize all-year-long:

1) Instead of giving children processed, sugary chemical laden candies…
Give them treats sweetened with organic (no chemicals, artificial flavorings, colors or preservatives) evaporated cane juice, flavored with pure essential oils and real fruit juices. These can be bought from a health food store or made from your own favorite recipe – substituting these ingredients where necessary.

2) Instead of sugary caffeine-laced soda/pop or sweet tea etc…
Make homemade soda from sparkling water and organic fruit juices.

3) Instead of purchasing store-bought Chips Ahoy, Oreo or other branded sugary cookies…
Bake mini-organic chocolate chip cookies with your favorite recipe, substituting white-refined flour for whole-grain unbleached flour and replacing refined sugar with unbleached, raw sugar cane.

4) Instead of high-fat, salty chips…
Get some sun-dried fruit & nut combinations to make a fresh trail mix out of coconut chips, figs, cranberries, banana chips and pineapple. These are a very fun, colorful and healthy variety of dried fruits.

5) Instead of Crunch-n-Munch or some other branded crunchy snack…
Use natural honey granola made with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and organic honey. Perhaps offer some fresh baked brownie bites. These can also be made from your favorite recipe substituting ingredients with whole-grain, unbleached flour, organic raw sugar.

These seemingly small adjustments most assuredly will go along way in protecting the health-fiber of families all over. Do your own part in preserving your family’s health today, tomorrow, and those to come!
