INTERVIEW | Lacricia Peters

Lacricia, describe yourself for our visitors.

I am a mother of four children, three girls and one boy. I’m a Pastor’s wife, Evangelist, Author, and Publisher. I also work full-time as a customer service representative at a bank. I’m deeply involved in the women’s ministry and music ministry at our church. My hobbies include reading Christian novels, and when I get a spare moment, which is rare, I like to watch movies. My preference is romantic comedies. I am a romance fanatic. My favorite type of music is Worship, songs that usher me into the presence of the Lord. I enjoy singing love songs to God.

How do you find time to connect with God?

I take time to connect with God when I get up in the mornings. I also commune with God during my daily commute. Often, when I’m not verbally talking to people, I’ll take a moment to offer up a silent prayer on behalf of others and myself. The presence of God holds a constant presence in my life. When I feel myself becoming too worldly focused, I try to stop and regroup.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

After I complete the first draft of my manuscript, my editor at that time thought I should change the title. After making the change from Girl, Naw! to, Much Given, Much Required I sent manuscript out to several publishers and agents that accepted direct submissions. I received several rejection letters. I never felt comfortable with the title change and so after the rejection letters started coming in I sought the Lord in prayer. I remember telling God, Lord, I know you told me to write this novel, why is everyone that I thought I was supposed to be sending it to rejecting it.

God’s answer came by way of friends, loved ones, and even strangers. I kept hearing the same thing. “You shouldn’t have changed the title.” I later realized when God tells you to do something, you have to do it the way he says otherwise, it will not have the outcome He has ordained. As I moved further along, God blessed me with literary friends that helped me to make Girl, Naw! all the He intended it to be. As I was driving home from work, the Lord revealed to me the vision of a publishing company. He let me know the company was not just to be a company for me to self-publish the books He has given to me. He also wanted me to publish other authors that were writing for ministry. I started a company called His Pen Publishing LLC.

Tell us about your current book?

Girl, Naw! is the story of Antoinette Walker. Antoinette is the type of woman that other women would want to be like. Looking at her life from the outside it appears perfect. She lives in a nice home, drives an expensive car, and has a handsome husband that adores her. All of that in addition to owning her own counseling practice makes her life quite attractive. But, who counsels the counselor. Once readers see the things Antoinette has faced in her past, and learn her heart, they will see there’s a lot more to her than what the eye can see. In her pursuit of a Godly life, Antoinette will learn the only way she can truly be free is through forgiveness.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

Being a Pastor’s wife, I’m often placed in the position of a counselor. Because of this, I wanted to show readers everyone goes through, regardless of their present circumstance.

What’s next for you?

I am currently doing research for my next novel Positive Deception. I am also working on advancing my publishing company.
