INTERVIEW | Rudelle Thomas

Rudelle, describe yourself for our visitors.

Well, I am a very busy person I can tell you that. I am a single mother of three teenagers ages 15, 16, and 17 and I work fulltime as a Program Information Technician. In addition to writing books and article for various publications, I am the Editor/Publisher of “Divine Eloquence Magazine”, which is published bi-monthly, and “In Pursuit of Destiny”, which is a weekly newsletter. I am the President of my own administrative services, desktop publishing, conference and event planning, and logo and basic web design business called Divine Designs 777.

I also created and maintain a 300 member online network, called “The Divine Companies Network”, which provides a place for business owners, authors, ministries, and other organizations to get what they need to succeed. I believe we all have something that someone else needs; they just don’t know it yet. I am also a motivational speaker and empowerment coach. In between all of that I’ve been getting ready for a September wedding and relocation to a different state. I would say my plate is very full, but I love everything that I do so most of the time it doesn’t feel like work.

How do you find time to connect with God?

If I didn’t make time, I wouldn’t have time. Many of us allow ourselves to get so busy, even when we are doing God’s work that we don’t ever take time out to connect with Him. I am so grateful for all He’s done and is doing in my life that I refuse to allow myself to neglect the One who’s made what I do possible. It is because He is that I am and I make the time to talk to Him and hear from Him so that I can have the peace and confidence that comes from knowing that I am in His will because He is directing my path.

Tell us about your journey to publication.

It’s been a long hard journey. With my first book, I began querying publishers in 2003 and got quite a few “interested” responses. I sent manuscripts etc., but in the end, they all decided not to accept my proposal so I then turned to self-publishing. I researched several companies and decided on Lulu Publishing in early 2006 and I am quite happy with their services.

Tell us about your current book?

My current book is titled, SOAR* Into Your Destiny. SOAR is an acronym for Surmount Obstacles and Reach. My passion is destiny because so many of us never live our life’s purpose because either we don’t know our purpose, we don’t believe we have the ability to live it, or we never overcome the obstacles in our lives that stand between us and our destiny. I want every person to know that you have a destiny, and you CAN live it no matter what your current circumstances look like.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

My own life. I have overcome extreme adversity and many times I wanted to give up. Many times I prayed to God to please let me die. But I thank God that he didn’t answer that prayer. After one suicide attempt where I took a bottle of strong sleeping pills and couldn’t even go to sleep, I knew that I could not die until my work here is done. That night God showed me that I had an assignment. I had a destiny and for that reason, he wouldn’t let me die, the devil couldn’t kill me, and I couldn’t take my own life. That night God gave me a determination that would force me to get back up every single time that life knocked me down.

By the grace of God, I have overcome rape, cancer, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness, having my kids kidnapped, suicide attempts, depression, anxiety, OCD, low-self esteem, and many other things and each time I thought I couldn’t take it anymore, God’s still small voice would tell me I could make it and He would give me the strength to go on. During those years, I learned so much about life, perseverance, determination, overcoming, and a will to make it, and I was so grateful to God for bringing me through it all, that I thought if I could just help one person to not have to go through what I went through or help them to get through a little easier, then I want to do it. God said write your story, and so I did. My first book was my past and this current book is my present and future.
