INTERVIEW | Dr. Annette M. West

Dr. West, describe yourself for our visitors.

I am definitely an extrovert. I love people, talking and sharing a Word from the Lord. I enjoy reading and prefer biographies, as I love to see how God has worked in peoples’ lives. I love gospel and praise songs, especially Yolanda Adams and CeCe Winans. I minister to my family and friends by my actions and try to save the preaching for the pulpit. I thoroughly enjoy ministering at prisons and nursing homes. I fellowship at the Shaw AFB, Chapel; I am president of the women’s ministry and a lay leader for the Inspirational Gospel Service.

How do you find time to connect with God?

Connecting with God has become apart of my nature, I just find myself there. I wake up with Him on my mind and think about Him all through the day. I am always praying in my spirit, talking to the Lord and always feeding on His Word. I would say that a focus scripture for me would be “This book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.” (Joshua 1:8)

Tell us about your book?

Living Words of Encouragement Volume 1 is a compilation of encouragements from my many years of writing. This book was written from many conversations, events and situations that have arisen during my journey. I have tried to keep it simple and real and easy for the reader to follow. This is the first of a series of books of encouragements that I will be writing.

How did you come up with the ideas for this book?

I have been preparing and presenting studies for over 20 years and had kept these resources in files. I had also been writing encouragements and sending them out through various avenues for several years. I was talking to the Lord one day and said that I wanted to do something with my many resources. I heard from Him “you only have to do it.” Thus begins my journey of writing to publish.

Describe your journey to publication.

Speaking at conferences many people have asked me for resources from my topics. Several persons receiving my encouragements over the years asked me to create book of encouragements, so I prayed about this move into publication. I began reading up on self-publishing. I believed that I had enough skills and sense that I could do this book without going to someone to change what I believe God wanted me to say. I put the interior of the book together then sent it to a couple of people for proofing. I created the front cover and back cover and when I thought everything was good I contacted someone to put it together.

I wanted a publishing company that would only create the final product and that I would not have to sign over any rights to my book. This process was time-consuming but very rewarding knowing that I could do it with the help of God and a few anointed people that He has allowed to help me in this process. With my busy schedule it has taken me several months to pull the first book together but getting the final copy from the publisher has taken only three weeks.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on three books. One is Living Words of Encouragement Volume 2. The second is Basic Biblical Building Blocks which is created from several seminars that I have done on the subject of reading and studying God’s Word.

I have also asked God to open avenues where I am able to integrate Him into my business background and will begin with this third book titled Making Money God’s Way in God’s Time: Entrepreneurship. I will present this third book at an upcoming conference in October. I am also praying about a book on my journey with God and Utilizing Spiritual Gifts to the Fullest: My Cup Runneth Over.
